From: Integrin-β1, not integrin-β5, mediates osteoblastic differentiation and ECM formation promoted by mechanical tensile strain

Assay of ALP activity. The results showed that the mechanical tensile strain of 2500 με at 0.5 Hz applied 1 h per day for 3 days (A) or 5 days (B), elevated ALP activity of pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells, pretreatment of integrin-β1 siRNA inhibited the mechanical strain induced elevation of ALP activity (the first and second column of A and B). Integrin-β5 siRNA had little effect on ALP activity, and pretreatments of both integrin-β1 siRNA and integrin-β5 siRNA simultaneously also attenuated the elevation of ALP activity, but the effect was weaker than only integrin-β1 siRNA. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, between indicated groups.
